Our new Head of Communications

The Max Delbrück Center’s Communications and Marketing department has a new head: Tabea Rauscher has taken over the role from Jutta Kramm. With a passion for science and strategic communication, she is shaping the dialogue between research and society.

For more than nine years, Tabea Rauscher served as Creative Team Lead at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), a leading intergovernmental research organization with six sites across five European countries and headquartered in Heidelberg. As of January 1, 2026, she has been heading the Communications and Marketing department at the Max Delbrück Center in Berlin, succeeding Jutta Kramm, who retired in late November 2025 after seven successful years in the position.

Tabea Rauscher

The internationally recognized research conducted by the Max Delbrück Center, which is highly relevant to society, forms the core of Rauscher's motivation. “My goal is to further develop our communications and marketing work in a holistic way, strengthening its impact and establishing it as a visible, connecting force both within and beyond the center,” she says.

Rauscher’s background is in strategic design. She has worked at renowned agencies such as Ogilvy and Scholz & Friends. She brings extensive expertise in corporate communications, brand management, internal communication and employer branding. Her passion for science communication emerged through her collaborations with research institutions. She aims to combine strategic corporate communication with clear and purposeful communication of complex topics. “My work will strive to be impact-driven, dialog-oriented and aimed at strengthening the brand,” she says.

Appreciative and future-focused

In her new role at the Max Delbrück Center, Rauscher sees communication and marketing as part of the strategic infrastructure of a modern research institution – one that provides orientation while serving as a catalyst for collaboration and development. “My goal is to create strong frameworks, foster collaboration, and open spaces where ideas can grow,” she says. “I combine clarity in leadership with a culture of trust and accountability as the foundation for sustainable progress and long-term success.”

Her personal leadership approach is marked by being “tirelessly optimistic,” she adds. “With passion, I connect people, perspectives, and ideas to shape a work environment that is innovative and future-oriented – at the Max Delbrück Center and beyond.”

Max Delbrück Center

The Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association lays the foundation for the medicine of tomorrow through our discoveries of today. At locations in Berlin-Buch, Berlin-Mitte, Heidelberg, and Mannheim, interdisciplinary teams investigate the complexity of disease at the systems level – from molecules and cells to organs and entire organisms. Together with academic, clinical, and industry partners, and as part of global networks, we turn biological insights into innovations for early detection, personalized therapies, and disease prevention. Founded in 1992, the Max Delbrück Center is home to a vibrant, international research community of around 1,800 people from over 70 countries. We are 90 percent funded by the German federal government and 10 percent by the state of Berlin.
