MPSs, NAMs, and Co – Bioengineering Human Physiology & Disease

Four webinars, emerging technologies and a chance to connect across disciplines. Join the first session on 10 November 2026 at 16:00.

A new bioengineering webinar series, coordinated by the Helmholtz Biomedical Engineering Initiative and developed with scientists from the Helmholtz Health Centres, invites our community to explore recent advances in next-generation human model systems. MDC will also be represented by Mina Gouti, who will contribute to the series as both speaker and host.

The series will cover microphysiological systems (MPSs), new approach methodologies (NAMs), synthetic biology, biosensing, and standardization and automation of human organotypic models. It aims to showcase emerging technologies, create new opportunities for collaboration, and start growing a community across the field.

Kick-off webinar: 10 November 2026, 4:00 PM (CET)

The opening session brings together two speakers working on how automation can support the generation, standardization and application of human tissue models:

Richard Davis, PhD
Leiden University Medical Center & Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine (reNEW)

“Scaling human cardiac models: from automated tissue generation to drug screening”

Kristin Metzdorf, PhD
Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI)

“Beyond human hands: How intelligent automation is standardizing organoid production”

Be part of the community from the start!

Whether you work in the field, see opportunities for collaboration or are simply curious about the advances, you are warmly invited to attend.

Register here for the first webinar.
